| We were so happy and made plans for our new kitty
all the way home. We walked in the door and poor Shadow is dragging
himself around and having some sort of convulsions. We immediately
took him to the vet where they determined that he was dehydrated and his
teeth were in pretty bad shape ... they took some blood for tests,
gave him some liquids and sent us home with him. I didn't know what
to think. We were so happy about the kitty but I felt bad that Shadow
was sick & we were bringing an active kitty home to live with him.
We picked the kitty up the next afternoon and was
he ever a mess. Poor thing had been at the pound for seven days then
spent the day at the vet for a check-up, flea bath, shots and to get neutered.
By then Shadow seemed to be feeling better and it appeared as though he
was happy with his new friend.
We learned the very next morning that our kitty's
favorite place to be was on our shoulder :) (and it still is ... except
he doesn't quite fit anymore - )

peacefully ...
The vet informed us that all of Shadow's tests came out great - especially for a cat that old - and that he probably wasn't eating because of his teeth and we should consider having them pulled. Well, since he was in good shape physically, what else do you do but say, go ahead? Nine teeth pulled on Friday! Needless to say, things went from bad to worse.
Shadow wasn't eating, kept having convulsions, going back to the vet for
liquids and being harassed by an active little kitty, who we finally named
Scampi (cuz he was such a delicious little shrimp). We started force
feeding Shadow three times a day and giving him vitamins. He just
wasn't getting better and on Friday, December 18th we finally made the
decision to let him go. We made arrangements for the next day and
I think Scampi had a sense that something was going on because he wouldn't
leave Shadow's side all morning. It was a sad day for us, but the best
decision for Shadow ... he had a long and happy life.
So here we were with a new kitty who was used to having company all day and we had finally given up hope on ever finding D.J. "We have to get another kitty", I told Bob. "Scampi needs company while we are at work all day". He agreed but we decided to wait until after Christmas because we were having our families over for dinner and we didn't want to have to worry about another new kitty with a house full of people. |
